The annual Miss Sugar Pageant chooses one young lady from Hendry and Glades counties to represent the festival during and after its events for the year. Join us Saturday, February 23rd 2019, for the Miss Sugar Pageant and crowning of our new queen. The pageant winner will also be issued a college scholarship along with her new title.

Meet The 2019 Pageant Judges

Effie Alexander LaQuatra is chair of the Family Law Department in the prestigious Pittsburgh law firm of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C., a 170-attorney firm, with 18 offices in 10 states. She is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where she graduated with honors and excellence in Moot Court competition. She currently serves as a judge for the American Mock Trial Association at the collegiate level competitions.  Effie is married to Paul LaQuatra, a retired high school English teacher, and has two daughters, Isabella and Elena LaQuatra. Elena is a former Miss Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Teen and second runner-up to Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, a former Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA and a former Miss Pennsylvania USA. Effie has previously judged numerous state pageants, including Miss Virginia, Miss Utah, Miss Iowa’s Outstanding Teen, Miss Virginia’s Outstanding Teen, preliminaries to the Miss West Virginia USA Pageants and numerous “Outstanding Young Woman” pageants, as well as Ohio’s Junior Miss. Effie herself is a former Junior Miss in Ohio and in her youth, spent 15 years studying dance, including ballet, jazz, lyrical, in addition to playing the violin for over 14 years.

Celine Pelofi was crowned Ms. United States in Washington DC in 2015 and is very active in serving her community. She is a Florida Registered Dietitian and earned her bachelors degree in science from Florida International University. Celine is just as passionate about healthy cooking and baking as she is about nutrition. Traveling has always been an important part of her life, she spent a year living in South France and has visited more than 14 different countries and speaks 3 languages. Being able to represent the US was a tremendous blessing and an unforgettable experience. She is currently building her private nutrition consulting business as well as working in real estate. She never forget what an incredible journey it was and continue to support young women as they pursue their dreams.
